My 100th Quilt for 2017!

This ADORABLE little quilt just melts my heart! Look at those cutie patootie little foxes! My oldest daughter, Hoxie (age 4), loves foxes. They are her spirit animal. When people people ask her name, she often introduces herself as "Foxy Hoxie"! She sure eyed this quilt intently. She really wanted to keep it!

Carol, the quilt's owner, thought edge-to-edge woodgrain would be a nice choice for the quilting, and I agree wholeheartedly! I think it turned out great!

This quilt marks my 100th quilt for 2017. I'm ahead of where I was at this point in 2016, and no plans of slowing down! I have LOVED collaborating on all 100 of those quilts, and I look forward to the ones in my queue. Since I got my longarm quilting machine in August 2015, I was so unsure whether or not this idea would work. Would people actually hire me to quilt for them? I have SO appreciated each of the clients that have brought me quilts and the trust they have placed in me. Thanks, you guys!

Bringing Home The Tree

This is a store sample for Rumpled Quilt Skins in Okotoks, AB. They'll be teaching this "Bringing Home The Tree" pattern as a class in October. It's got adorable applique, embroidery, and embellishments. And I really like the not-obvious Christmas colors. Mustard, cream, charcoal, black. They have kits available. So classy and cute and the same time!

For quilting, I did as little as I dared in the applique. Just some simple outlining. I love how it lets these focal points puff up. There are two layers of batt - bamboo on the bottom and wool on the top. The fabrics are flannel or wool. So yummy!

I filled densely around the applique, with meandering snowballs. I also added a diagonal plaid to the background of the top left pane. And in the mustard outer border, I used the plaid of the fabric as my guidelines to quilt a diagonal stripe. I LOVE how that turned out!

Sharon's Maritimes quilt

New client Sharon brought me this great quilt, which was made for her son-in-law. For the fabrics in this log cabin quilt, she chose colors of the maritimes. And to continue with that theme, I quilted big swirls and waves on it. I particularly love the movement of the wave motif in the really wide outer border. It evokes the ocean, the wind, the wildness and naturalness that I think of as The Canadian Maritime Provinces. If only I could some day GO there and see for myself! Great job on a great quilt, Sharon!

Butterflies quilt

This quilt is another delicious creation from my client, Donna. Her color choices are always so appealing to me! The jewel tones in the fabrics that make up these butterflies are fabulous! Edge-to-edge quilting was the order of the day for this piece. Some swirls, some leaves, some paisleys. And voila! Totally gorgeous!

Jane's Hearts quilt

I love this interlocking heart quilt pattern. Blur your eyes, and count how many hearts you see! I see 2 hearts right-side-up. Wait- now I see 2 hears upside-down. Wait- now I also see 2 turned 90º to the right and 2 turned to the left. Wait- now I see... oh, geeze, this could go on all night.

For quilting on this piece, Jane wanted it cuddly. She chose meandering hearts as an edge-to-edge quilting motif. I also put some loops in there, just for fun. Such a youthful, energetic quilt!

I also applied binding to the front of the quilt. Jane prepared the binding strip and brought it to me with her quilt top and "fireside" (fuzzy, fleecy material) backing. I used my longarm quilting machine to attach the binding to the front side of the quilt, before removing it from my frame. Then I trimmed off the excess batting and backing. And when Jane got it back, it was ready for her to wrap around to the back side and hand-stitch in place. Lovely!

Jane's Canada 150 Quilt

My dear quilty friend, Jane, was one of my very first customers. She is such a good quilter and such a dear soul! Look at her quilt in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. 13 VERY detailed applique blocks, representing Canada's 13 provinces and territories. The teensy tiny pieces in this quilt are insane. Lots and lots of raw-edge applique.

I applied a simple sashing treatment (pearls on a string) and border treatment (ribbon candy), as well as some very discretionary outlining (stitch-in-the-ditch) within the blocks themselves. But other than that, I let this piece speak for itself. It's it marvelous? It will adorn Jane & Gerry's cabin beautifully and patriotically!
